Tonight ‘s lecture was by The Man Who Knows, Alain Nu, internationally renowned mentalist. He demonstrated fascinating feats of mentalism. Some were classic effects often punctuated with many of his own innovations such as supplementing the Invisible Deck with the very surprising Invisible Watch. He gave an enlightening explanation of the use of branching anagrams. He gave detailed explanations not only into the mechanics of the effects but also into the mental processes and human interactions that are at the heart of mentalism. Much of what he did was applicable to many other branches of magic. He discussed the different stages of his career from his magic shop days to constructing large stage illusions. He explained his transition from grand illusions to mentalism and the effect it had on his operation.
We also nominated a fine field of magicians for officers.
Next month’s meeting will have election of officers. Our featured lecturer is Chris Fabiano presenting “Food for Thought on Restaurant Magic”. Chris will discuss the do’s and don’ts of performing in restaurants, bars, and clubs. Of course, this lecture will not only be theory, but Chris will teach some effects directly from his working repertoire.
